History: A nation that had a tough childhood. Very early in her childhood, Russia discovered the continent of Antarctica while arriving in her land, and claimed her land as his. In her early days, America found her and named her land the "Marie Byrd Land". England came, then took her as his own, and tried forming a colony there, called Nhineira (Welsh ; Nhin = Bottom, Eira = Snow). He found the winters too harsh, and the food supplies were extremely low, so he abandoned her and claimed the Southern Shetland Islands, or Robinia. For a while, America and Russia helped her by sending food supplies. One winter, because the conditions were extremely harsh, America couldn't get supplies to her, and there were food disputes within her country, leading to the citizens stealing food from her neighboring countries, Rossland(New Zealand claim) and Antarctisia(Chilean Claim), leading to several small wars. These wars resulted in the royal families being killed, and much chaos. After the wars were over, Nhin became very poor, but got financial help from her older brother, Solumundi. After recovering from the stress of political issues, Nhineira finally found a stable family to rule the nation. Not long after, most of Antarctica was taken over by Queen Maud Land, and after several invasions, most of Nhin's land was taken over. Nhin, Ross Dependency, and Antarctisia banded together as a union of allies (The Antarctic Union of Rossland, Nhineira, and Antarctisia; AURNA) when Queen Maud Land took them and neighboring countries over, eventually resulting in a successful rebellion. After the nations returned to their original state, Nhineira conquered them again while they were weak, forming the Nhineiran Union of Antarctica (NUA. She had claimed the countries of Robinia, Nevosatia, Adelia, Maudia (Queen Maud Land),Antarctisia and Rossland as part of the NUA.) At this time, she controlled all of Antarctica except a portion of Solumundi, out of respect for her brother. This only lasted for 11 years; Queen Maud Land, Robinia and her two sisters, Adelia and Nevosatia fought fiercely against Nhineira, breaking up her land into what the original countries were, also resulting in another massacre of the royal family. Sometime after that, she and Queen Maud Land were close, but she treated Nhin like she was her property, so she broke away from Maudia. Later, Nhin again took control of Robinia, Nevosatia, and Adelia, but it only lasted for 3 years this time. Robinia broke from Nhin, but afterwards became her ally. No more wars followed, but she was still poor, so she clung to Solumundi for a while. Rossland then wanted to join with Nhin, but she declined. For about ten years and to today, Ross keeps trying, and now resorts to also asking Antarctisia, Queen Maud Land, and anyone else, in desperation for land. Now, she is in favor with Russia, America, her siblings, Queen Maud Land, Robinia, Adelia, and Nevosatia.
When she was little, she was visited all the time by Snegurochka, the personification of Antarctic Winter/weather. She really loved the snow at first, but she learned the horrors of the cold. Ever since the time she asked for a really big blizzard, she hated winter. Snegurochka still visits her today, and has been visiting Antarctica as a whole more recently.

Personality: In her earliest days, she was very serious and sincere, but after the hardships of war and neglect, she seems like an innocent girl that loves slushies. However, she holds a tiny bit of insanity due to her somewhat chaotic childhood. On the outside, she is very polite and cheerful. When angered, she mutters indistinct words in her language, and if she's mad enough, she'll hit someone with a staff made of whalebone that she carved when she was young. When she's angry, her expression is typically a cracked grin, but when she's a serious kind of angry, she makes a usual angry face. Some of her happy thoughts are beating up Maudia, England, or anyone else she hates. But what she really dreams of is the day when her country can be lush, green, warm, and without winter. She really loves daisies. She holds a grudge against England for abandoning her, and even though she seemed like she forgave him, she replaced the sugar for his tea with salt.
Sometimes she carries around a pole made of whalebone that she made when she was younger, and that's what she basically uses as a weapon. She also loves G'Pates (French: Gel Pate; Eng: Frozen dough), something Adélia taught her how to make, which is an unbaked dough cookie, with shaved ice in it, and sometimes has ice cream on top.
In her speech, she often says 'ke' at the end of her sentences, which is the Nhineiran equivalent of the English 'hm' or 'huh'(Kind of like the Canadian 'eh')

Geography:
Vast plains of ice and snow, along with the West Antarctic Ranges, the tallest mountain range in Antarctica, and Vinson Massif. There are a couple rocky places, in the areas of the mountains and near the shore. This is where Nateczda is. In the rocky places, Antarctic pearlwort and Antarctic grass grow. Msljoch is a drink made from fermented pearlwort, and sweetened with various seasonings.

Weather/Climate:
Mostly snowy, and/or extremely cold. The coastlines of Antarctica get the most snow, but have milder temperatures (even though they are still freezing). Precipitation on the shorelines consists mostly of snow, which can cover up to 20-40 inches or more of ground. On average, coastal winds can exceed 198mph. On the mainland, the wind can be only 12mph.
Winters in Antarctica are very dark and severe. At the equinox of March 22, the sun sets and the light of day is not seen again for six months, until September 22. This marks the start of the cold, dark winters that Antarctica is famous for. ((The personification of the Antarctic winter is Snegurochka.))Penguins are the only animals that spend winter in Antarctica.
Blizzards are the usual involving Nhineiran weather, and Antarctic weather as a whole.
Even the summers in Antarctica have been becoming colder, going against global warming. ((Nhin thinks that Snegurochka is having a battle against Mister Summer, and winning. ))

Wildlife/Vegetation:
On the coast, there are numerous amounts of sealife. Crustaceans include species of krill, crabs, shrimp, lobsters, sea spiders, etc. While fishes include crocodilefish, dragonfish, hagfish, and the most popular to eat, the icefish/Antarctic cod. Whales include mainly baleen whales, but orcas are also seen. Seals such as the Ross seal are common in this area of Antarctica. Baby seals were once hunted for their fur, but animal rights groups have now protected them in Nhineira.
Birds include terns, albatrosses, skuas, gulls, cormorants, sheathbills, and the ever-famous penguin. Emperor penguins live permanently in Antarctica, mostly in this region, especially the Ross Ice Shelf. Males huddle with their partner's eggs during the harsh winters while the mothers go to find food to give to the hatched chicks.
There are only two species of plants that grow in Antarctica. They are the Antarctic hair grass and Antarctic pearlwort, which is a type of moss.
-Msljoch ((Msogl- Welsh; moss , joch- Welsh; drink, pronounced Missile-yock)) is an alcoholic beverage made from Antarctic pearlwort, and other things such as imported fruit juices are mixed with it to give it better flavor. In Nhineira, the most common of the juices used is apple juice/cider. In Rossland, grape juice is more common, and in Antarctisia they use pineapple or orange juice.

Holidays: Easter, Nhineiran Independence Day, and Christmas (Celebrated for two weeks, Dec. 25 - Jan. 7 due to American and Russian cultures)

Religion: Mostly Christian, between the branches of Catholic and Protestant, along with tiny populations of Hinduism, Islamic, and Jewism.
